Amber Valetta shot by Hedi Slimane for V MAGAZINE. A sophisticated layering of denims and leather, the story features a veritable constellation of metal hardware and studs, pared back with Amber’s slicked back mane and heavy-lidded graphite eyes.

Hedi Slimane 2009

Prada by Hedi Slimane, and some.

The beautiful, monastic images of the Prada menswear campaign for Fall Winter 2009, shot for a consecutive season by Hedi Slimane.

This artistic pairing of Miuccia Prada with the ex-Dior Homme designer (and accomplished photographer) is a testament to Prada’s unwavering artistic vision – with her recent distinction of the menswear campaign as a strong and separate entity from the womens. The shadows playing across the studded hardware and leathers create an immediacy to the foreground of the images, whereas the inky black backgrounds create a stunning illusion of the models floating in a void. It embodies Hedi’s work at it’s most refined, sharp and texturally-rich, in contrast to his street and concert shots with their signature gritty edge.

Along my current Prada stream of consciousness, I have included a film created by fashion photographer David Sims earlier this year, portraying the womenswear collection of Prada from Spring Summer 2009 in an entirely new context. Urban symbology and handycam-style direction contribute to this artfully raw footage, as Sims uses skateboarding tricks to showcase the collection on plastic mannequins. He moves from crash-dummy sets and skate parks to conducting a ritualistic burial-like sequence in the wilderness, and finally sets his heroine on fire. A post-modern viking burial? You decide.
